People ask me, like, “Why do you maintain these relationships for so long?” I don’t know. I’m very deeply connected to Adrienne, and I’m very deeply connected to Green Day. I think about this song as an extension of “2000 Light Years Away,” 20-something years apart. We tend to overthink the things that are not really important. It’s just finding out that the things in life that are more simple are actually the biggest connections that you can have. Then I ended up writing this song, “Ordinary World,” that sounded more country, and it just sort of fit the movie. One of them was “Outlaws,” which is also on Revolution Radio. I was in a movie called Ordinary World in 2016, and the director, Lee Kirk, wanted a song that kind of summed up the character’s life. His punk-rock dreams however, have yet to die. Instead of a career in the music industry, Miller works an ordinary job and lives with his ordinary family. The lead character can be viewed as Billie Joe himself in an alternate world in which Green Day was never successful. The lyrics are told from the perspective of the character Armstrong plays in the film, Perry Miller. The title of the song is also a callback to the song “Extraordinary Girl” from American Idiot, which opens with the lyrics “She’s an extraordinary girl/in an ordinary world” Armstrong was happy enough with the outcome of this track that he opted to include it on the album. “Ordinary World” wasn’t originally written for the album, but for the soundtrack of the movie of the same name. It certainly signals that the rock star, who presumably doesn’t want to die before he gets old, could easily segue into an acting career. An acoustic ballad, written in the rhetorical style of folk classics such as Bob Dylan’s “Blowin' In The Wind” and Pete Seeger’s “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” – which Green Day had already referenced in American Idiot's “Letterbomb” – “Ordinary World,” presents verses composed of hypotetical questions left unanswered, and provides an optimistic atmosphere to close the album. Holy Family A family hiding a shocking secret starts over in Madrid, where new relationships complicate their plans and the past begins to catch up with them. But it’s Armstrong’s engaging turn that makes Ordinary World (formerly titled Geezer) an enjoyable if slight diversion. When a bestselling author (Justin Hartley) returns home at Christmas to settle his late mother's estate, he finds a diary that holds secrets to the past. You will like this if you enjoy a good family comes 1st movie that lacks violence, and is not. The rest of the cast - including such estimable actors as Kevin Corrigan, Dallas Roberts, and Brian Baumgartner - provide solid support. The film includes new songs written and performed by Armstrong. Its chief amusements stem from watching its notoriously excess-loving star portraying a midlife crisis-suffering dad who says things like “I need a nap” and insists that his friends use coasters. Its plot hinging on such elements as the party getting slightly too raucous and whether Perry has lost the guitar he’s bought for his daughter’s upcoming recital, Ordinary World certainly lives up to its title (it also happens to be the name of a song from Green Day’s new album, which Armstrong performs acoustically in the film). Occasional strong language includes 's-t,' 'p-y,' 'a-hole,' and more. It follows an aging rocker who has to learn to be responsible. Perry also runs into an old girlfriend (Judy Greer), now Joan Jett’s manager (the legendary rocker makes a cameo appearance), who tries to rekindle their romance. Parents need to know that Ordinary World (which has also gone by the title Geezer) is a dramedy starring Billie Joe Armstrong from the band Green Day. An unexpected windfall prompts Perry to impulsively rent the presidential suite at an upscale hotel and throw a party for himself and his friends, including a former bandmate (Fred Armisen) who’s still angry that their band’s “temporary hiatus” has lasted well over a decade.
